Kyiv’s 2026/2027 heating season started on 16 October. Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced it, according to several Ukrainian outlets. Heat will be supplied in stages, so radiators in most flats remain cold for now.
Who gets heat first
In the first stage, social institutions are connected to the heating networks: hospitals, schools and kindergartens. They are connected on individual requests from the heads of the institutions, not automatically.
What about residential buildings
As of the evening of 16 October, the city authorities had not named a date for housing. The decision is usually made based on the weather: the benchmark is a fall in the average daily temperature to +8 °C or lower for three days in a row. The readiness of the heating networks and the security situation are also taken into account.
Where heat cannot be supplied yet
In parts of the Dniprovskyi and Darnytskyi districts, connection is currently impossible. According to the sources, the reason is damage to an energy facility from shelling. No repair timeframe has been given.
What Kyivans should do
- Follow announcements from the city authorities and your heat supplier: dates for buildings may be announced at short notice.
- Check whether you need to bleed the air from radiators before hot water appears in them.
- Do not use dangerous homemade heaters while there is no heat.
- If your building has problems with its internal networks, contact the manager or the homeowners’ association before the cold arrives.
The information is current as of 16–17 October. The situation may change, so check the final dates on the city’s official resources.
