A personal budget helps you understand where your money goes and plan big purchases. Make it once, then just adjust it.
Step 1. Count your income
Write down all regular receipts for the month: salary, benefits, side jobs.
Step 2. Write down essential expenses
Utilities, rent, transport, food, phone, medicines, loans. This is the base you cannot do without.
Step 3. Divide the remainder
A popular “50/30/20” scheme:
- 50% for essential needs;
- 30% for wants: cafés, entertainment, shopping;
- 20% for savings and paying off debts.
The proportions can be adjusted to suit you: the main thing is to have a split.
Step 4. Keep track
Notes on your phone or a banking app that groups spending by category are enough. Add up the week and compare it with the plan.
Tips
- Pay yourself first: set aside part of your income right after you receive it.
- Plan big expenses ahead.
- Review the budget every month.
- Use “pocket money”: a small limit with no tracking reduces the pressure of self-control.
Do not treat a budget as a ban. It is just a plan that lets you spend money consciously.
