Work without formal registration seems advantageous: lower taxes and more money in hand. But for the employee it can turn into serious problems.
What the employee risks
- Pension. Unpaid contributions mean shorter length of service and a lower pension.
- Sick leave and maternity leave. Without official registration there will be no payments.
- Loans and rent. A bank and a landlord will not accept “informal” income.
- Protection of rights. If the employer does not pay or dismisses you, proving that you worked will be hard.
- Holidays. Paid leave belongs only to officially employed people.
What official registration looks like
You sign an employment contract, and the employer submits information about you to the tax authority. Taxes are withheld from your pay and contributions are transferred.
What to do if you are offered work without registration
- Ask about official registration from the first conversation.
- Keep evidence of the work: correspondence, messages, schedules, money transfers.
- If you already work informally, turn to the bodies that monitor compliance with labour law.
Remember: official registration is not only the employer’s duty, but also your protection.
