The participatory budget is a mechanism by which residents propose ideas and then vote on those that receive funding from the city budget. This is how new parks, playgrounds, cycle paths and improved courtyards appear.
How it works
- Submitting projects. In a set period, any resident can propose an idea.
- Review. City specialists assess the project: whether it is within their powers and whether its cost is realistic.
- Voting. Admitted projects are put to a vote by Kyivans.
- Implementation. Winners receive funding and are carried out.
What a project should be like
- For the whole community, not for one person.
- Realistic in cost and timing.
- With a clear address and description.
- Within the powers of the city authorities.
Tips for authors
Gather support in advance: tell neighbours, local chats and groups about the project. Add photos of the place where you want to make changes and an estimate of costs.
Where to find the current rules
Deadlines, cost limits and voting procedures are set by the city authorities and may change. Current information is published on the city’s official portal.
