Kyiv police detained a 23-year-old man suspected of robbing two pawnshops within an hour. Regional media reported this on 16 September.

What is known

According to law enforcement, the suspect was detained after a number of reports. Details on how the attack was carried out, the amount of damage and the classification are usually clarified by investigators in the notice of suspicion.

The information comes from the media and has not yet been confirmed by a court.

Why pawnshops become targets

Pawnshops deal with valuables and cash, and staff are often few. That is why law enforcement advises owners to strengthen security.

What works for protection

  • A panic button linked to a security monitoring desk.
  • High-resolution surveillance cameras.
  • Safety rules for staff: do not resist the attacker, memorise his features.
  • Minimal cash in the till and regular cash collection.

What witnesses should do

Do not interfere with the attacker and do not risk your life. Call 102, remember the features, direction of movement and vehicle.

A reminder

A suspect is presumed innocent until a court passes a verdict.
